Who We Are

OUTlaw is a student organization dedicated to gay, lesbian, bisexual, and transgender persons both at Duke Law School and in society at large. OUTlaw serves its student population by providing it with a forum for the discussion of legal or political issues affecting gay, lesbian, bisexual and transgender individuals. Membership in OUTlaw is open to any person with an express interest in providing support for the equal treatment of sexual minorities. OUTlaw serves an important social function as well; it allows students at Duke Law to establish friendships and identify other students with a commitment to our community.

What We Do

OUTlaw works to create and strengthen relationships among LGBT students and allies both in- and outside the law school and seeks to educate the greater law school community about the legal challenges facing LGBT individuals and families. Each year, OUTlaw brings in speakers to discuss topics of interest such as same-sex marriage, hate crimes prevention, or employment non-discrimination. This page is under construction so please check back to see our accomplishments over the past years and our goals for the future.

OUTlaw is the proud recipient of the 2007 American Bar Association's "Certificate of Excellence in Diversity Initiatives" award.
